We provide structural and cosmetic restoration as well as proper conservation procedures for collectors, dealers, and institutions.Cabinet Work Services include: Restoration and replacement of inlay, which includes parquetry and marquetry, brass, ivory, bone and pewter. Chair tightening, frame repair, alignment and upholstery removal. Veneer restoration and replacement. Replacement of missing elements, carvings, and turnings. Metalwork, which includes: furniture hardware replacements and repairs, lockset repairs and key fabrication. Replacement of inset leather tops found on desktops, and leather writing tables. Re-caning and re-rushing.

We handle a large variety of gilding restoration including consolidating flaking gesso, filling losses to gesso, and regilding period objects and furniture. We are able to perform this work while at the same time conserving the original surfaces that are in stable condition as well as blending and matching the restoration work to the original bole and gold leaf. Oxford Restoration is very conscious of using only the finest quality materials including 23 Karat gold leaf.

This area of restoration includes fine Chinese and Japanese antiques as well as European and Continental Japan work. Oxford Restoration is highly skilled in dealing with the many problems that often arise with lacquered antiques. Our services include stabilizing and flattening lifting and cupping lacquer, rebuilding losses to lacquer, conserving and cleaning the existing surfaces, and touching up losses to match an existing surface.

The artisans at Oxford Restoration are highly trained in all traditional methods of polishing. Every step of this process, from making our own shellac and stains to waxing furniture with “Oxford Restoration Paste Wax” is done by hand. Our expert finishers use procedures that allow objects to retain their original character and value thereby ensuring an authentic restoration and appearance.

Utilizing trusted and trained art handlers we are able to provide transportation in the Tri-state area as well as nationwide.
